Knowing you're going to be welcoming a child is an exciting time. You are going to have lots of questions and the volume of information available can feel confusing. Our education classes for birth, feeding, and parenting provide you with reliable information presented without judgement. We know there are A Million Ways to do this.
National Capital Doulas are proud to offer a wide variety of classes offered in the comfort of your own home, taught by a certified birth doula. We will travel to clients living in the Ottawa, Outaouais, and surrounding areas. If you live outside of those areas contact us to inquire.
We now have a virtual prenatal and parenting series. Our childbirth education series, comfort measures class, infant feeding class, and our A Million Ways parenting class are available online. We cover topics such as comfort measures, birth preferences and options, full childbirth education, and lactation education. These can be purchased separately, in combination, or added to any birth support packages.
Childbirth Education - $225
Two 3.5 hour classes including topics such as late pregnancy, signs of early labour, stages of labour, pain management option, understanding comfort in labour, hospital policies, how to advocate for yourselves, your postpartum recovery, infant feeding and how your partner or other support people can best help you, and what to expect from yourselves and your baby in the first few weeks. Our childbirth education classes are offered virtually and in person providing privacy and flexibility in scheduling.

Comfort Measures - $75
Two hours of instruction where you will learn about non-medical comfort measures and pain management techniques including Rebozo, touch, birth ball, positioning, breath work, and TENS. You will learn about the hormones involved in birth and how your environment impact them. We also include how to articulate your wishes during your baby's birth, options available to you, birth place policies and procedures, and how to advocate for yourselves. This is an interactive, hands on class.
Infant Feeding Education Before Birth - $50
One two hour meeting where you and your partner or helper will learn the basics of infant feeding including how to get started, how to know your baby is hungry, what is latch, breastfeeding myths and realities and community resources, and how you can best be supported in the first few weeks. We will also cover other feeding methods if that is your goal - how and when to introduce, paced bottle feeding, formula (types and how to feed safely). This class is offered in person or virtually.
