Andria has been involved in the birthing and parenting community in Ottawa for years. She brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to National Capital Doulas and we couldn’t be happier to have her as part of our team. She has trained as a birth doula with Childbirth International and a postpartum doula with MotherWit, as a breastfeeding counsellor with Childbirth International and as a babywearing educator through the Canadian Babywearing School. She also works as a pre/post-natal and children’s yoga instructor with Little Lotus Yoga. Andria has a warmth and compassion that draws people to her. We know her and want you to know her too. Get to know Andria Bell a little better and learn some fun tidbits.
What book has influenced you greatly? How?
Ina May’s Guide To Childbirth was eye opening for me. I read it while pregnant with my second baby and really felt like a first time mom as the ideas were so far from what I experienced with my first. Pregnancy is not a disease, our bodies are meant to carry and birth babies!
What is the best gift anyone’s ever given to you?
I would have to say a gift I got from my good friend just after the birth of my fourth baby (who is a rainbow baby: baby born after a pregnancy/infant loss) she gifted me a rainbow baby wrap/sling.
Why do you live in this area?
I was born in Ottawa! But moved to western Canada as a child. When I was pregnant with my first I was a single parent, I moved back to be closer to my family here. That was 9 years ago!

My husband and children – hard to choose one over the other.

What do you think is the best feeling in the world?
When you touch your baby, skin to skin, for the first time.

If you could plan your ultimate vacation, where would you go?
What’s your favourite line from any movie?
“Do or do not, there is no try.” Yoda 🙂
What is a fashion trend that you used to wear (in the 70s, 80s, 90s etc.) that you would now be embarrassed to wear?
Probably the 90s grunge look, ripped jeans, plaid ….no – just no! LOL!
What is your favourite part of your day?
I love my family, but after everyone is asleep and I have just me and my thoughts for a bit is my favourite part of the day.
Name one thing that you couldn’t live without.
My phone… I keep everything in my phone.

Probably to Scotland, I have family and heritage there.
