National Capital Doulas
Modern Doulas for the Modern Family

Long before National Capital Doulas came to be, three individual doulas worked to support one another's businesses, and to create community and stability. Amie spent years with the founding members of NCD, Danielle, and Kamerine, before coming together to solve two problems with doula work we recognized could end with just a few changes: Families needed reliable doulas, providing reliable care.
We each came to doula work after the birth of our children. And soon after, NCD was born from us feeling there was a better way to do this work. Better for the doula, better for the doula's family, and better for the families served. Our new model allowed us to make promises and provide guarantees that were not options while working independently. We worked to give assurances such as clients receiving a rested doula, always knowing the doula at their birth, and receiving seamless care from one doula to the next.
We knew there had to be a better way to start parenthood. We knew the experiences modern families hoped to have in birth and recovery meant they needed more attention, more personalized communication, and direct care during one of the most memorable experiences in life. Everything was going to feel new and daunting, but it didn't have to be overwhelming and confusing.
So we became doulas. We became doulas to serve modern Ottawa families. Families who were keen to learn information, options, and have a remarkable experience.
National Capital Doulas began in 2015 through the dedication and hard work of three incredible women. So while our team has some new faces, our core values remain the same, and we will continue to reach our goals of better care for families and doulas with the help of our growing team.
Regardless of which services you are looking for from NCD, we keep our attention on the details because it is the little things that leave a lasting impact. We have a big goal: to help new Ottawa families have a positive beginning as parents. So while we are a small group of committed professionals, we can provide care and support that is reliable, comforting and has a significant impact.
National Capital Doulas understands that there is more to birth than an outcome. We know how a person feels is just as important as what happens. We have sought out reputable and professional training and designed offerings to combine informed options with warmth and understanding. We want every encounter with NCD to leave you feeling valued and confident.
With more than ten years of experience and a dedicated team of doulas, we are working to make a difference for families who are seeking unbiased knowledge, personal attention, and reliable support to work through the decisions and emotions of parenthood.
National Capital Doulas is committed to personalizing birth. We are committed to strengthening the birth and parenting community in Ottawa, dedicated to providing reliable doulas and care, and we can't wait to meet you!
Together we approach support with a combination of thoughtfulness, open mindedness, and empirical evidence.

Andria attended the birth of our son three years ago and was invaluable helping us through some stressful complications after he was born. We could not have been more excited when she attended the birth of our daughter this fall. She is warm, professional, and so deeply supportive. As second time parents, having our memories jogged prenatally was so helpful - you just don’t realize how much you’ve forgotten since the last time around! During the birth, I was deeply reassured with just her presence alone. She also had the instincts to jump in with great suggestions through the tougher contractions to ease the discomfort. The birth of our daughter was simple and straightforward because I knew my birth team had my back the entire way through. Andria was a huge part of this and it’s hard to imagjne giving birth without her!
We were grateful for Amie's support during my pregnancy and birth. Amie's warm and friendly approach immediately made us feel comfortable. She was highly available and responsive, and we never felt pressed for time. Amie was resourceful and knowledgeable, and tailored her approach to our needs. Amie's presence during my labour was extremely reassuring and she presented me with options, which always left me feeling in control.
